This photograph taken in early 1911 shows the Lion Gates, sometimes referred to by Lewis as "The Gates of Opportunity," on either side of Delmar Boulevard. By 1911, Delmar was a broad avenue extending almost to Hanley at the west limit of the City. Dr. Pickney French's house in University Heights #1 Subdivision is on the right. | Source | Photograph, laminated, stains in corners, damage lower left edge and corner, 9.19" by 6.68" | Subject | University Heights #1 Subdivision (University City, Mo.) | Subject | University City (Mo.)--Pictorial Works | Subject | Delmar Boulevard (Saint Louis, Mo.) | Subject | Lion Gates (University City, Mo.) | Subject.Keyword | Sculpture | Title | Lion Gates, looking west on Delmar, 1911 |
