ABOUT THE PROJECT

In 2002, the University City Public Library was awarded a Library Services and Technology Act grant to digitize and catalogue the Lewis Photograph Collection. Six hundred photographs were digitized using Adobe Photoshop and an Epson Expression 800 Scanner with the exception of one. Our thanks to Kupper Parker Communications for their assistance in scanning our signed Eugene Taylor photograph of Edward Gardner Lewis when it proved to be too large for our scanner.

In 2005, the Library received a second LSTA grant, this time to digitize and catalogue the Lewis Collection of publications, documents and minutes of the American Woman’s League and its successor organization, the American Woman’s Republic. Twenty-one documents, comprising more than 500 pages, were digitized using Adobe Photoshop and a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL scanner with the exception of two. The Grand Prize certificate awarded to The American Woman’s League by the International Exhibition in Turin, Italy, and the Declaration of Equal Rights and the Constitution of the American Woman’s Republic were digitized by Robert W. Lyner, Digital Preservation.

Each image is an historically accurate reproduction of the original photograph or document..
