Creator | Steinbruegge, Henry E. | Date.Digital | 2002-06-20 | Date.Original | 1909 | Description | This drawing of the Art Academy Building for the People's University was used in several Lewis publications. The artist, Henry E. Steinbruegge, was a Lewis Publishing Company employee. The building was designed by St. Louis architects Eames and Young who had just designed the pylons for the Lion Gates. Lewis' intent was to have all the school and public buildings decorated with work done by the honor students, and the top of the Art Academy, as indicated in this drawing, was to have included full sized sculptures. Only three designs were ever selected, and none were completed. | Source | Photograph, holes left side, damage left edge, 7.34" by 5.74" | Subject | People's University (University City, Mo.) | Subject | American Woman's League | Subject | Art Academy (University City, Mo.) | Subject | University City (Mo.)--Pictorial Works | Subject | Eames and Young (firm) | Subject.Keyword | Buildings--Missouri--University City | Title | Artist's drawing for the Art Academy Building, 1909 |
