Description | This photograph was taken looking northeast from the Creveling farm. The Woman's National Daily Building is on the right. The octagonal Woman's Magazine Building is in the center. The Italian Renaissance Revival mansion, stables and carriage house that belonged to Jackson Johnson are on the left. Johnson was one of University City's first aldermen. Washington Avenue curved south around the Johnson property, and Williams Avenue, running vertically across the center of the photograph, was south of Washington. Williams seems to have just been graded and curbs constructed, but it comes to a dead end in the middle of a field. |
