DescriptionIn 1903, Edward Gardner Lewis hired architect Herbert C. Chivers to design the new headquarters for the Lewis Publishing Company. He designed the building using a mix of styles. In this photograph taken in the fall of 1903, the exterior walls for the headquarters building, known more familiarly as the Woman's Magazine Building, are complete up to the fourth floor. Doric columns support the triangular pediment over one of the two main entries. The first floor is constructed of stone and upper stories of brickwork decorated with spiraling garland and classic egg and dart molding.
