Description | Edward Gardner Lewis and the Lewis Publishing Company were under Post Office Department investigation several times for his use of second class mailing privileges for his magazines. Investigators combed through Lewis' records and subscription lists many times. This photograph was taken on the fifth floor of the Woman's Magazine Building during one of the investigations. Behind the clerks is the building's bird cage elevator. The spiral staircase leads to the dome of the building and Lewis' famed searchlight. |
