| Description | The Goss printing press built especially for the Lewis Publishing Company to produce "The Woman's National Daily" cost $10,000 and was reported to be the largest and fastest press in the world. The press could print and fold 5,000 complete newspapers per minute. It stood 28 feet high and held 36 rolls of newsprint which weighed 1,500 pounds each. The sign on the top of the press reads
"THE LEWIS"

This photograph taken from the balcony over the great hall and press room provides a view of the murals created by artist Ralph Chesley Ott who designed the interior of the building. It was reported that he went to Egypt to study the great temples in order to create the Egyptian theme. |
