DescriptionIn 1909, University City residents passed a bond issue for funds to purchase a fire engine. In September 1910, the brand new state-of-the art, 90 horsepower, 650 gallon per minute, automobile fire engine built by the Robinson Fire Apparatus Company of St. Louis, was delivered. It cost $9,000. Fire Chief Oscar J. Kortkamp is at the wheel, and City Marshall John Willman is standing in the back. Delmar had been paved with creosote blocks just the prior spring.
