DescriptionIn 1909, grading work began on Delmar Boulevard as Edward Gardner Lewis began promoting University Height subdivisions #4 and #5, also known as Monument Place, which extended west on Delmar almost to Hanley Road. The subdivision had not yet been developed, but was being promoted as an investment opportunity. This photograph shows road crews working with teams of horses and mules. It appeared in "The Woman's National Daily" on October 2, 1909.
