DescriptionIn early 1909, Edward Gardner Lewis hired architects Eames and Young to design entry gates for University Heights. Lewis referred to them as "The Gates of Opportunity." In this photograph, the bases of the pylons are under construction on either side of Delmar Boulevard. Lewis, seen here on horseback, frequently rode around University City, usually accompanied by his dog.
